A thick, creamy, gut-healthy smoothie packed with probiotics, fiber, and brain-boosting nutrients. Perfect for busy mornings when you need a nutritious breakfast on the go for the whole family!
Ingredients
• 1 cup blueberries or any berries of your choice
• 2 bananas
• 1/2 mango, peeled and chopped
• 1/2 fresh pineapple, chopped
• 1 handful of fresh kale
• 1/2 cup chia seeds
• 1/2 cup hemp seeds
• 1 cup plain organic whole milk kefir
• 1 cup almond milk (clean ingredients, no gums or emulsifiers)
Instructions
Step 1 - Add liquids first: Pour the kefir and almond milk into the blender first. Adding the liquids first helps everything blend more smoothly.
Step 2 - Add fruits and greens: Add the berries, bananas, mango, pineapple, and kale to the blender. Don’t worry about the kale - the fruit will completely mask the flavor and your kids will never know it’s there!
Step 3 - Add seeds: Add the chia seeds and hemp seeds to the blender.
Step 4 - Blend until smooth: Blend on high for 60 to 90 seconds until completely smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more almond milk and blend again.
Step 5 - Serve and go: Pour into cups or reusable smoothie pouches for little ones. For on the go, pour into a sealed mason jar or tumbler. Enjoy immediately or store in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Give it a good shake or stir before drinking if stored.
Tips
This smoothie is an absolute powerhouse for gut health and brain development! Kefir delivers billions of beneficial probiotic bacteria that nourish your child’s gut microbiome. Chia seeds and hemp seeds provide omega-3 fatty acids, prebiotic fiber, and plant-based protein that fuel growing brains. The berries are rich in antioxidants that reduce gut inflammation. Fresh organic fruit is always the best choice, but organic frozen fruit works absolutely perfectly in a pinch - keep a bag of organic frozen berries, mango, and pineapple in your freezer for those extra busy mornings when fresh fruit is not available. Just make sure it is organic! Frozen fruit also makes the smoothie extra thick and cold without needing ice. When choosing almond milk, always read the label and choose one with a short clean ingredient list - avoid any brands with gums, emulsifiers, or additives like carrageenan or xanthan gum as these can disrupt the gut microbiome. Make a big batch at the start of the week and store in the fridge for a quick grab and go breakfast every morning!
